Senior Chemist

Proactive Personnel are recruiting for Senior Chemist role for a privately owned Manchester based Company that provides specialised contract liquid fill manufacturing of household and personal care products. You will be joining a small Research & Product Development team where you will be responsible for expertly formulating and developing products working to strict safety, legal and regulatory compliance standards.

 

Responsibilities:

New Product Development

  • Manage projects independently, from concept through to launch, reporting to the New Product Development Manager.
  • Organise a system to aid finding current raw material prices for updating formulation costs.
  • Develop a system to make it easier identify formulations that contain raw materials of interest
  • Ensure files contain current documentation for ingredients we buy
  • Liaise with Raw Material Suppliers to find new Raw Materials as needed
  • Manage leaping bunny files for cruelty free claims
  • Manage stability tracker to ensure that tracker is up to date, and all samples are tested at the correct time.
  • Manage time to ensure all work is completed on time in full or advise Manager accordingly.
  • Ensure product from first production runs match product specifications expected.

Manufacturing Support

  • Internal training of Manufacturing staff on pH and viscosity
  • Provide technical support to blenders
  • Assist blenders with ‘out-of-spec’ products by suggesting solutions to fix the issues.
  • Maintain the NEC files so we have a record of the SLES concentration in the products
  • Carry out Analytical Analysis when required ( eg titration of chlorine levels , and SLES level)
  • Evaluate production samples against Standard samples and sign off batch sheets if OK.
  • Maintain collection of Standards and Production samples, and discard as samples expire.

General Lab Duties

  • Ensure pH meters in the lab are calibrated daily, and ovens are working at required temp.
  • Ensure all raw materials etc. have the correct documentation electronically – SDS, Spec and any other legal or compliance information.
  • Organise Raw Materials, Fragrances, Extracts and Dyes, ensure labelled correctly with Expiry date and warnings.
  • Ensure development work is properly documented to show progression of the work
  • Ensure the lab is clean and tidy at all times.

Monday to Thursday 08:00 – 17:00, Friday 08:00 – 12:00

Salary starting at £34, 000 dependent on experience

Qualifications/Experience

  • Minimum BSc in Chemistry or related field
  • Experience in household, personal care, cosmetic, paints or coatings formulation.
  • Supervisory/mentoring experience
