Job Title:​​Supply Chain Buyer

Report To:​​ Commercial Director

Delegating to: ​Internal and External Staff (below)

Key Purposes:​ Deliver operational & financial value: bring added value to the business through supply chain excellence, cost optimization, mitigation of the risks and policy compliance in order to improve Total Cost of Ownership.

My client is a building infrastructure specialist based in North West England and operating across the UK. We have an in-house design and delivery team, which enables us to provide our clients with a full turn-key solution.

The role will involve:

• Keeping detailed records, a Develop sourcing strategies & create a network of vendors for the country/region

• Participate in the definition of requirements with internal stakeholders

• Negotiate commercial terms and contracts with vendors

• Execute conversion of request to purchase orders (PO);

• Follow-Up delivery of Goods & Services and support Good Receipt if require

• Monitor supplier’s performance including pricing, service levels and quality delivery to stakeholders.

• Track the agreements expiration and provide to procurement.

• Maintain the catalogues based on the demand.

• Build a strong network of suppliers to support Business development in the country/region

• Maintaining well‐organised work schedules

• Providing daily order trackers

• Producing delivery schedules

• Create call off schedules

• Assessing the reliability of sub‐contractors and suppliers

• Dealing effectively with challenges with suppliers and the flow of materials

• Ensuring compliance with the safety, health and environment requirements of materials and services

• Providing advice to the Managing QS or SQS on the predicted cost of individual items

• Liaising closely with the estimator or QS at the tendering stage to ensure that an accurate project cost is provided

• Preparing and maintaining cost reports to maximise efficiency within the business

• Negotiating and agreeing the most favourable terms possible with suppliers once a contract has been secured

• Pushing suppliers for credit limit increase when possible

• Produce Supplier Tracker for all supply chain, credit limits and terms

• Attend site meetings and sub-contractors’ meetings through Construction delivery

• Work with construction team to offer advice and options for ways around design and material problems

• Obtaining quotes and negotiating prices with suppliers


Essential criteria relevant to the job

Skills knowledge and aptitude

• Full knowledge and understanding of construction materials, mechanical, electrical and utilities materials is beneficial

• 5 years’ experience in procurement function

• Commercial experience is a must

• Good communication skills

• Strong maths and budgeting abilities

• Analytical thinking skills

• Negotiation skills.

• MS Office: Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel

• Experience of Sage accounting systems

Member of chartered institute of procurement and supply

Degree within a construction related discipline

Special requirements

• Current full UK driving licence
